Infrared spectroscopy of minerals and related compounds /

When using infrared spectroscopy for the study of minerals, researchers often face a number of specific difficulties. This may be due to various factors, including lack of available substance, small sizes of monomineral grains and aggregates, the presence of structural impurities and mechanical inclusions, instability of some minerals, scattering effects, atmospheric disturbance, background noice, anomalous dispersion, interference, etc. One can distinguish three kinds of sources of errors and artifacts in IR spectroscopy of minerals, which are connected with experimental procedures, data proceeding and data interpretation <...>

Ingenieurgeologie / Инженерная геология

Innovative exploration methods for minerals, oil, gas, and groundwater for sustainable development / Инновационные методы разведки полезных ископаемых, нефти, газа и подземных вод в интересах устойчивого развития

Mineralization is a result of interaction of complex geological processes consisting ofmyriads of unknown random natural processes in the earth’s crust, surface, or the atmosphere. As such exploration formineralization in virgin areas is extremely difficult as also exciting.Mineralization, here, is not restricted to only minerals like gold, silver, lead, zinc, etc., but also of rare earth, oil, gas, coal, and groundwater, and the techniques for their exploration have also become varied, innovative, and complex combining some or all of them to achieve the target <...>

Inorganic geochemistry: applications to petroleum geology /

Petroleum is not as easy to find as it used to be. Most of the accessible sedimentary basins in the world have been explored and a large proportion of the more obvious petroleum targets have been drilled. The more risky and costly exploration becomes, the more important it is to develop new discoveries as efficiently as possible and to extract a greater proportion of the petroleum in place from existing fields.

InSAR as a practical tool to monitor and understand large-scale mining-induced ground deformations in a caving environment / InSAR

The application of InSAR technology to monitor mining-induced deformations has been successfully applied at the Kiruna mine site for more than seven years. Ground deformations are caused by the use of large-scale sublevel cave mining to extract iron ore from the underground Kiirunavaara mine.

Instrumental analytical chemistry. An introduction /

Instrumentation for analytical chemistry gives rise to many abbreviations, some forming “acronyms.” These are often more encountered than the terms they abbreviate, and they appear extensively in the text. A reader new to the field may become lost or disoriented in this thicket of initials. To aid the student in reading the text, the abbreviation/acronym index below translates these and indicates the chapter where they are best defined or characterized. These acronyms are frequently compounded, as in UV/VIS (ultraviolet/visible) or LC-CI-TOFMS (interfaced liquid chromatograph to time-of-flight mass spectrometer operating in chemical ionization mode). The components of such compounded abbreviations are listed individually in the index, but not all the possible combinations. All acronyms are abbreviations, but the reverse is not true. For example, CLIPS, DART, DRIFTS and COSY are acronyms because they form words or are pronounced as words; GFAAS, APCI, and FTIR are abbreviations. <...>

Instrumentation in Earthquake Seismology /

This book is primarily intended for seismologists and technicians working with seismological instruments. Seismologists tend to take their data for granted, hoping that the black boxes of seismographs and processing software will take care of all the nasty problems, much like driving a car and not worrying too much of how it works. But cars stop or malfunction and so do seismographs. Thus a basic understanding of seismic instrumentation is essential, even for the seismologist who is never going to turn a knob on an instrument.

Integrated mine closure /

The document is not intended to be prescriptive. It provides guidelines, good practices, case studies and a range of tools that can be utilised in formulating wellconsidered decisions when planning and executing closure. It uses a risk and opportunity-based process to guide the practitioner through the iterative process of planning for final and progressive closure in a considered manner, as well as tactics for considering sudden or temporary closure.

A balanced closure approach fully incorporated into mine planning activities will lead to better outcomes across a range of considerations, including health, safety, social, environmental, legal, governance and human resources <...>

Integrating geologic and satellite imagery data for high-resolution mapping and gold exploration targets in the South Eastern Desert, Egypt / Интеграция данных геологических и спутниковых снимков для картографирования с высоким разрешением и поиска золота

The granitoid-greenstone belts of the Arabian–Nubian Shield are well-endowed with lode gold and massive sulfide ores. Although generally characterized by excellent outcrops and arid desert realm, poor accessibility and lack of finance have been always retardant to detailed geologic mapping of vast areas of the shield. Lack of comprehensive geological information and maps at appropriate scales would definitely hinder serious exploration programs.
