Petroleum engineering. An introduction to petroleum geoscience / Нефтяное машиностроение. Введение в нефтяную геонауку

Petroleum geoscience is a multidisciplinary subject, underpinned by the broad spectrum of the Earth sciences. The aim of this book is to cover the fundamentals of the Earth sciences and examine their role in controlling the global occurrence and distribution of oil and gas resources. It also explains the principles, practices and the terminology associated with the upstream sector (exploration and production activities) of the oil industry. The book is intended also for non-geoscientists — petroleum engineers, drilling engineers and petrophysicists — who, due to their interaction with geologists and geophysicists, benefit from some knowledge of the latters’ role and work practices in exploration ventures

Petroleum exploration: past, present and future. Elements of petroleum geology / Поиски нефти: прошлое, настоящее и будущее. Элементы геологии нефти

Petroleum exploration is a very old pursuit, as the preceding quotation illustrates. The Bible contains many references to the use of pitch or asphalt collected from the natural seepages with which the Middle East abounds. Herodotus, writing in about 450 BC, described oil seeps in Carthage (Tunisia) and the Greek island Zachynthus (Herodotus, c. 450 BC). He gave details of oil extraction from wells near Ardericca in modern Iran, although the wells could not have been very deep because fluid was extracted in a wineskin on the end of a long pole mounted on a fulcrum.

Petroleum geochemistry and geology / Геохимия и геология углеводородов

The continually rising standards of petroleum geoscience and oil search require an ever greater knowledge of the fundamental nature of petroleum, its origin, and its behavior in the rocks of the earth’s crust. In the early stages of the petroleum era, most oil men were not much concerned about the how, why, and when of oil and gas; all they cared to know was where. Those years are gone, and it is now more and more recognized that the how, why, and when of petroleum are critical keys to where it should be sought.

Petroleum geology / Геология нефти

The fascination of petroleum geology lies both in its complexity and in its importance to society. There is still much that we do not understand; and there is much to learn if remaining undiscovered reserves of oil and gas are to be found economically. It is also good geology with a healthy practical component. The great advances in geological thought and understanding in the 19th Century were based largely on the construction of coal mines, railways and canals. But this was almost two-dimensional geology of the land, bounded by the low-tide line. In the last 30 years or so, geology has moved offshore onto the continental shelves and ocean floors, largely under the stimulus of petroleum exploration, and with it has grown a great wealth of geological information. <...>

Petroleum geology of Africa: New themes and developing technologies / Нефтяная геология Африки: новые темы и развивающие технологии

The purpose of this short contribution is to provide an overview of our current state of knowledge of Africa's petroleum systems as an introduction to the detailed volume accounts that follow. Toward that end we introduce a set of maps on a supplementary CD compiled by Purdy as part of a confidential report provided to industry subscribers some ten years ago. The maps include subsurface as well as surface structural information but, because of their vintage, have not taken account of more recent information. Nonetheless, the regional geological framework apparent on the maps has not changed and, in that sense, the maps are as relevant today as when they were first compiled. Moreover the maps serve as a useful building block on which more recently acquired exploration data can be readily added by others using facilitating computer programs. <...>

Petroleum Geology of Libya / Нефтяная геология Ливии

Libya has the largest petroleum reserves of any country in Africa and since production began in 1961 over 20 bilhon barrels of oil have been produced. It has been calculated that Libya will reach the mid-point of reserves depletion in 2001 and this provides a timely point at which to review the state of petroleum exploration in Libya. It is perhaps surprising that no comprehensive account of the petroleum geology of Libya has yet been pubUshed. This is partly attributable to the fact that it is only within recent years that oil companies have released the information necessary to compile a book of this kind, and partly because of the onerous task of collecting the data. On average around fifty articles are pubhshed each year on the petroleum geology of Libya. A recent bibhographic search revealed over 5000 pubhcations dealing directly or indirectly with Libyan geology, and a large proportion of these pubhcations relate to hydrocarbons. <...>

Petroleum Geology of Libya / Нефтяная геология Ливии

Carthaginian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Ottoman, Italian, and Allied military control after the Second World War. There was little organised scientific activity before the annexation of Libya by Italy in 1911, although a number of expeditions, some with scientific interests, passed through Libya in the 19th century. The main objective of these expeditions, mostly organised by the London-based African Association, was to explore the region southwards from Murzuq to Timbuktu, determine the course of the Niger River and assess the commercial potential of the area. The earliest of these expeditions was undertaken by Friedrich Hornemann who travelled with a camel caravan from Egypt into Libya passing through the oases of Siwa and Awjilah, and then across the Haruj al Aswad to Murzuq, and subsequently to Tripoli.

Petroleum geology of North Africa / Нефтяная геология Северной Африки

North Africa contains some 4% of the world's remaining oil and gas reserves, and is now one of the most active exploration areas. This volume represents the first attempt at a compilation of the petroleum geology of North Africa, documenting a series of papers collected on the petroleum geology of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Ubya and the western part of Egypt. The main objectives of this book are to increase the level of documentation towards that appropriate for such major petroleum provinces and to facilitate the application of analogues between North African countries and beyond.
