Efficient real time stability monitoring of mine walls: the  Çöllolar Mine case study / Эффективный мониторинг устойчивости стенок шахты в режиме реального времени: на примере шахты "Келлолар"

Slope monitoring radar has emerged in the last ten years as a leading edge tool for monitoring movements in open pit mines, thanks to the ability to rapidly measure wall movements with millimetric accuracy over wide areas in any weather conditions. IBIS-M is an innovative interferometric radar able to provide high spatial resolution, long working distances and fast acquisition time. The first IBIS-M unit deployed in Turkey was installed in 2011 at the large lignite open pit Çöllolar Mine operated by Park Teknik. The geotechnical staff has now 24/7 real time monitoring of the slope stability with a wide coverage on the pit walls with the capability to detect the onset of wall movements far before the occurrence of failure, thus increasing the safety standards and productivity of the mine. The IBIS-M monitoring experience at Çöllolar mine is presented in this paper. <...>

Die Erdgeschichte ist der eigenartigste Zweig der Geologie, welcher die kausal-naturwissenschaftliche und die historische Betrachtungsweise verknüpft; sie eignet sich daher besonders gut zur Einführung, sofern eben diese spezifische Betrachtungsweise deutlich gekennzeichnet und klar herausgearbeitet wird. Die Schilderung darf also nicht in einer einfachen Materialsammlung steckenbleiben, sondern muß, von den Voraussetzungen ausgehend, über die Sichtung und Ordnung des Materials zu einem Gesamtbild zu gelangen versuchen, welches, über spezialwissenschaftliche Erkenntnis hinaus, den weltanschaulichen Gehalt der Erdwissenschaft zu kennzeichnen vermag. Wenn auch das Endziel heute noch fern erscheint, so ist doch der Weg klar vorgezeichnet, und ihn den Studierenden kenntlich zu machen, ist der Hauptzweck dieses Buches, im Gegensatz zu den eklektischen Sammlungen eines oft recht heterogenen Tatsachenmaterials in vielen älteren Lehrbüchern.

Einführung in die isotopengeochemie / Введение в изотопную геохимию

Jeder Atomkern eines chemischen Elementes hat die gleiche Ordnungszahl Z – bedingt durch die Zahl der Protonen. Verschiedene Kernarten desselben Elementes unterscheiden sich in der Anzahl der Neutronen N und damit in der Massenzahl A = Z + N. Solche verschiedenen Kerne eines Elementes bezeichnet man als Isotope. Kernarten ohne Beziehung zu einem Element werden Nuklide genannt, von denen 264 stabil sind. Isobare sind Nuklide mit identischer Massenzahl und gehören damit also verschiedenen Elementen an.

El cretacico inferior del Nordeste de Iberia

On the occasion of the III Colloquium on the Cretaceous of Spain, which took place in More-lla on the 6th, 7th and 8th September 1991 sponsored by the Spanish Group of Mesozoic, there were two field trips to illústrate the present knowledge of the Lower Cretaceous of Northeastern Iberia. These excursions are the object of the present guide-book. In the period passed between when this guide-book was written and its final publication, new results were published which represent a significant increase in our previous knowledge. These publications in international journals, which are referenced at the end of the foreword, together with the figure captions of this guide-book, which have been translated in English, will help the English reader to obtain the information necessary to understand the Lower Cretaceous of Northeastern Iberia.

This book concisely examines the use of elasticity in solving geotechnical engineering problems. In a highly illustrated and user-friendly format, it provides a thorough grounding in the linear theory of elasticity and an understanding of the applications. The first two chapters present a basic framework of the theory of elasticity and describe test procedures for the determination of elastic parameters for soils. Chapters 3 and 4 present the fundamental solutions of Boussinesque, Kelvin, and Mindlin, and use these to formulate solutions to problems of practical interest in geotechnical engineering. The book concludes with a sequence of appendices designed to provide the interested student with details of elasticity theory that are peripheral to the main text. Each chapter concludes with a set of questions for the student to answer. The book is appropriate for upper level students in civil engineering and engineering geology.

Electrochemistry of flotation of sulphide minerals / Электрохимия флотации сульфидных минералов

Sulphide minerals are the important resources of nonferrous metals, which are widely used in many fields such as electronics, chemical engineering, aviation, transportation, construction and metallurgy etc. Flotation technology is the most important method to beneficiate sulphide ores to obtain concentrate containing nonferrous metals since it has been used in industry at the end of the 19th century. As early as in the 1930s-1950s, considerable amount of fundamental research had been conducted on the flotation of sulphide minerals based on wettability, electrokinetics and chemical interactions.

Electron crystallography. Novel approaches for structure determination of nanosized materials / Электронная кристаллография. Новые подходы к определению структуры наноразмерных материалов

The discovery of electron diffraction in the laboratories of C.J. Davisson and G.P. Thomson in 1927 certainly ranks as one of the monumental discoveries in the history of science. Soon after this invention, it was realised that electrons - like X-rays - are diffracted by the atoms in matter and thus can be used for structure determination. Because the attainable scattered  intensities for electrons are about 106 times larger than for X-rays, electron diffraction allows us to study the interior structure of matter down to a few cubic-nanometers in size. This is far beyond the capabilities of X-ray crystallography or even a modern synchrotron.

Recent advances in horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracture stimulation technology have opened up vast new oil and natural gas sources in shale formations. Shale gas production in the United States was 5 trillion cubic feet (141 billion m3) in 2010, representing 23% of the total U.S. dry-gas production (U.S. Energy Information Administration, 2012). Shale gas production has also been established in Canada, and initial exploration drilling has begun outside North America, most notably in Poland, Argentina, India, Australia, and China.
