Indian Geotechnical Conference (IGC 2018) was held at the National Science Complex of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, during 13–15 December 2018. This is the annual conference of the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS), which was established in the year 1948 with the aim to promote cooperation among the engineers, scientists and practitioners for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the field of geotechnical engineering. IGC 2018 was a special event since it coincided with the 70 years celebrations of IGS.

The book sets out to present a state of practice of the geotechnical engineering of embankment dams and their foundations and the geotechnical engineering of the foundations of concrete dams. It assumes that the reader is trained in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology, with knowledge of soil and rock mechanics.

The Italian Conference of Researchers in Geotechnical Engineering—CNRIG— reached this year its seventh edition, three years after the successful conference held in Bologna in 2016. The conference was promoted by the National Group of Geotechnical Engineering (GNIG; http://www.gnig.it/) and hosted by Politecnico di Milano (https://www.polimi.it/) at the campus in Lecco (Polo Territoriale di Lecco, http://www.polo-lecco.polimi.it/en).
