In 2003 the Council of the Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits (SGA) decided to accept the offer from the Irish Association for Economic Geology (IAEG) to organize its’ 9th Biennial Meeting. The title proposed was “Digging Deeper”, not meant in the this literal sense (although this is partly true in some ore districts) but metaphorically in terms of using more scientific applications and methodologies to understand mineral deposits and also to use advanced techniques in mineral exploration. The IAEG believed that this would have a broad interest to industry which is presently booming and would, we believed, still be in the throws of this boom in 2007. <...>

As a profession, mining engineering is often viewed as being distinctly unique from other fields of engineering. Paramount among the factors driving this opinion are the multidisciplinary nature of the technical considerations influencing the design and operation of mines and processing facilities, the uncertainty inherent to mineral resources and the geomaterials in which these facilities are constructed, and the economic risk that underlies these investments.

The extraction and processing of minerals is an essential part of the way the world and its various civilizations function and interact. To forget the contribution that mining has made (and continues to make) is to take for granted the significant progress that civilization has made since the last Ice Age. It is also to ignore the fact that the very structure upon which we depend is built on—and with—the products of mining. <...>

В диссертации, представленной в виде научного доклада, изложены и обобщены результаты исследований, выполненных автором в период 1960-1998 гг., по разработке невзрывных экологически чистых способов и средств разрушения горных пород высокой крепости и абразивности, основанных на использовании энергии электромагнитного (ЭМ) поля высокочастотного (ВЧ) и сверхвысокочастотного(СВЧ) диапазонов.
