The area to he described consists of two irregularly elongate outcrops of Lower Carboniferous sedimentary rocks in the counties of Tyrone, Fermanagh, and Donegal; the larger southern outcrop, covering 148 square miles, extends from Lough Erne in the west to the Strule Valley in the east; the northern outcrop, about 30 square miles in extent, lies about six miles north of the southern outcrop.

Papers presented at the International Congress cover all aspects of the Earth history in the Carboniferous and Permian periods. Congress participants reported on the boundary definitions of the International Chronostratigraphic Scale and GSSP choices, high-resolution stratigraphy, Late Paleozoic glaciations and interglacials, tectonics and orogenies, the evolution of the marine and continental biotas, sequence stratigraphy, correlation of marine and non-marine strata, and Carboniferous and Permian coal and mineral resources.
The purpose of the field trip is to show the standard and reference Carboniferous sections of the eastern slope of the South Urals. The area of the excursion is on the border of the Chelyabinsk Region and the Republic of Bashkortostan. The guidebook includes a summary of geology and Carboniferous stratigraphy of the Urals. Eight geological objects of the excursions are described and illustrated. The Verkhnyaya Kardailovka section, a candidate for the base of the Serpukhovian GSSP, is described in detail. A Devonian-Carboniferous section near Verkhneuralsk, the stratotype of the Lower Viséan Ustgrekhovkian Horizon on the Ural River, and Bashkirian organic buildups on the Bolshoi Kizil and Khudolaz rivers are described.
This guidebook describes the sections of the Upper Carboniferous and Lower Permian of the Preuralian Foredeep, and gives lithological and paleontological characteristics of the deposits. The guidebook is intended for geologist and paleontologist who study Carboniferous and Permian stratigraphy and paleontology, and for students and teachers of fieldwork techniques.

Lower Carboniferous deposits are distributed within a wide area of the northwestern part of the Moscow basin. They have been known for many years as the source of mineral deposits of bauxite, brown coal, and other industrial minerals, including fireproof clays and building materials as the most important. The geologic investigation of these Lower Carboniferous deposits began more than 200 years ago. Many well-known geologists and academicians such as S. G. Gmelin, S. F. Olivieri, G. P. Gelmersen, R. Murchison, E. Verneuil, N. P. Barbot de Marni, E. Eichwald, A.A. Inostrantsev, and P. A. Zamyatchensky made the first step in the geological investigation of the region, laid thefoundation of the stratigraphy of the Lower Carboniferous strata of the northwestern part of the Moscow basin.

Вторая часть содержит детальное описание горных пород продуктивной толщи на территории Донбасса и некоторых его окраин. Подробно рассмотрены вопросы классификации, текстурно-структурные особенности горных пород, их минералогический и химиче'ский состав.
