Uranium deposits are known from fi ve uranium provinces and some separate areas (>Fig. 1.1, and discussed below) but no complete uranium inventory of China is published since uranium resources are a state secret. Available information on resources is scanty, incomplete, and burdened with discrepancies. It is unclear whether reported fi gures document original resources or the resource status at a specifi c mining stage. Th erefore, data on resources should to be treated with caution. Taking this into account, available information suggests the following general picture of China’s present resource situation (status 2002).
With the rapid development of the national economy, China’s demand for energy continues growing, and the contradiction between oil and gas supply and demand has become increasingly prominent. From a net exporter of crude oil in 1993 to an importer, China’s demand for crude oil import has increased year by year as domestic demand continues growing. In 2007, China’s net crude oil imports were 15928 104 t, a year-on-year increase of 14.7%. The external dependence of crude oil reached 46.05%. According to the forecast, like crude oil, natural gas will have a supply gap in recent years. CBM is an unconventional natural gas resource-rich and less developed in China. The total resource of CBM with a depth of less than 2000 m in China is 32.86 1012 m3 , of which the technically recoverable resource is 13.90 1012 m3
The assessment of porphyry copper deposits in eastern Asia has a long history, and many people have been involved. USGS colleagues Klaus J. Schulz and Joseph A. Briskey initiated the project and participated in the first workshop, in Kunming, Yunnan, in 2002. Stephen G. Peters and Warren Nokleberg coordinated and led the initial assessment activities, prepared preliminary reports, and represented the USGS to our Chinese counterparts at several meetings.

Earth science is the study on the substance composition, origin, formation, evolution and the interaction of each part of the earth system. In the late 20th century, the earth science developed towards the earth system science, focusing on the lithosphere, and gradually extended to the relationship and interaction with the other layers.
Uranium is a trace element in the earth’s crust. Because of its low content and uneven distribution, the abundance of uranium in the earth’s crust varies greatly. The general value is on the order of parts per million (10−6), while the highest value can reach 10−4. Although it may seem that the content of uranium is minor, In fact, it is higher than that of tungsten, mercury, silver, and other familiar metals, being even thousands of times higher than that of gold!
China is an emerging superpower, with a huge demand for raw materials and mineral resources that are being used to increase the standard of living conditions for its residents and bolster its surge forward in the global economy.
