Well test analysis is one of the cornerstones of reservoir analysis, as it is only through the wells that we ever have the opportunity to make direct contact with the reservoir. Nonetheless, the reservoir parameters of importance to us are not measurable directly, hence the need to make an indirect interpretation of pressure and flow rate transients in the process we call well test analysis. The need to solve the inverse problems inherent in well test analysis makes the field one of the most intricate mathematically, while still dependent intimately on the practical characteristics and accuracy of the pressure measurements themselves.

These exercises have been made to fit the content of the book Pressure Control During Oil Well Drilling http://bookboon.com/no (a book that was revised and updated in 2011, mostly on basis of input from readers). Many of the exercises in present book have been solved by students in the corresponding course at the Department of Petroleum Engineering and Applied Geophysics at NTNU of Trondheim, Norway. The physical theories behind Measurement-While-Drilling design should be rich in scientific challenges, engineering principles and mathematical elegance. The first two standards are applicable only to existing mining operations, test pits, or transportation of coal.
