The Pan European Reserves and Resources Reporting Committee (PERC) Standard for Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves (further referred to as the 'PERC Reporting Standard') sets out the minimum standards, additional guidelines and recommendations for the Public Reporting of Exploration Results (including Exploration Targets), Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves.

The Brazilian Commission for Resources and Reserves (CBRR—Comissão Brasileira de Recursos e Reservas) was established in 2015, conceived as an initiative from three of the most important and representative associations within the Brazilian mineral sector: the Associação Brasileira de Empresas de Pesquisa Mineral (ABPM—Brazilian Association of Mineral Exploration Companies), Agência para o Desenvolvimento e Inovação do Setor Mineral Brasileiro (ADIMB—Agency for Mineral Development and Innovation of the Brazilian Mining Sector) and Instituto Brasileiro de Mineração (IBRAM—Brazilian Mining Institute).

African Mineral and Energy Resources Classification and Management System (AMREC) is a continental system for management of Africa’s mineral and energy resources.

The AMREC is based on United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) Principles, Generic Specifications and Guidelines and is aligned to Africa Mining Vision (AMV) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Adapting to national or local needs, the AMREC provides the specifications and guidelines required for sustainable development of Africa’s mineral and energy resources.

The Kazakhstan Public Reporting Code for Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves (hereinafter - the KAZRC Code) was developed by the Kazakhstan Association of Public Reporting for Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves (hereinafter - the KAZRC Association) with the support of the Committee of Geology and Subsoil Use of the Ministry of Investments and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the members of the KAZRC Association.

In contrast to the recognized man/machine system of industry, the production process of mineral resources brings about a man/machine/nature system. The dynamic evolution of this system is characterized by a steady increase in the level of human labour. This also means that labour becomes increasingly complex and complicated due to the interaction with increased automation and mechanization.

Nickel, copper, and cobalt resources in undiscovered Ni-Cu deposits associated with Palaeoproterozoic synorogenic intrusions and Archaean and Palaeoproterozoic komatiitic volcanic rocks have been estimated down to the depth of one kilometre in the bedrock of Finland using the three-part quantitative assessment method. Grade-tonnage models were constructed for Finnish synorogenic intrusive deposits and komatiitic deposits using data from known Fennoscandian deposits. Twenty-six permissive tracts were delineated for synorogenic intrusive deposits, 30 for komatiitic deposits, and 15 for Talvivaaratype Ni-Zn-Cu-Co deposits.

Although aspects of mineral deposit evaluation are covered in such texts as McKinstry (1948), Peters (1978), Reedman (1979) and Barnes (1980), no widely available in-depth treatment of the subject has been presented. It is thus the intention of the present book to produce a text which is suitable for both undergraduate and postgraduate students of mining geology and mining engineering and which, at the same time, is of use to those already following a professional career in the mining industry. An attempt has been made to present the material in such a way as to be intelligible to the average geologist, or engineer, who is perhaps daunted by the more mathematical approach to the subject of orereserves found in more specialist books and papers.
