The title of the short course reads "Natural Zeolites"; however, the subject matter treated in the course and reviewed here deals primarily with those zeolites that occur in sedimentary rocks and which have formed by authigenic or burial diagenetic processes. Unfortunately, only limited coverage has been given to the classical occurrences of zeolites--the megascopic crystals in the vugs and cavities of basalts and other basic igneous rocks. Our only justification is that since the late 1950s, almost all major efforts on zeol ites have been directed towards the "sedimentary" occurrences, and it is these occurrences of zeolites in sedimentary rocks that are still unfamiliar to many geologists and mineralogists. It is our intention that this short course and these notes will playa small role in alleviating this unfamiliarity. <...>

The flight of the Mariner 2 spacecraft past Venus in December 1962 marked the start of a new era in the exploration of the solar system. At that time our knowledge of the terrestrial planets other than Earth (Mercury, Venus, and Mars) was largely astronomical in nature.

Leaving aside the atmosphere and hydrosphere, rocks are the stuff of which the earth is made. Because of this, the study of rocks, petrology (from the Greek petra, “rock,” and logos, “discourse or explanation”), occupies a central position among the earth sciences. The study of rocks is the source of virtually all of our ideas about the history of Earth. Knowledge about rocks, their origin and ages, and their distribution is potentially capable of contributing to the solution of a wide variety of problems that run the gamut of geological interests.

Mining operations may be classified into surface mining, where the operations are unconstrained and open to the sky, and underground operations, where mining takes place in tunnels and galleries. In both situations roads play a key role as a typical mining operation consists of moving overburden (waste material) and ore from where the material was formed or deposited, to waste dumps or beneficiation plants.

В монографии представлены результаты исследований асинхронных электроприводов забойных скребковых конвейеров в рабочих и аварийных режимах. Разработана математическая модель электромеханической системы скребкового конвейера, которая включает: конфигурацию системы электроснабжения приводов конвейера, длину и параметры ветвей кабелей питания; количество и параметры приводных асинхронных двигателей; гидромуфту, редуктор и приводную звездочку; степень загрузки конвейера, его длину и угол наклона; рабочий орган в виде многомассовой системы, варианты его загрузки и заклинивания.

Изложены методы экспериментальной тектоники и результаты их применения при изучении условий образования складок и разрывов и сопровождающих их деформаций в земной коре. Показано, что при правильном методическом подходе тектоническое моделирование может оказать существенную помощь в решении ряда теоретических и практических вопросов структурной геологии, а также при прогнозе условий залегания различных полезных ископаемых. Сопоставлены природные объекты и их модели, сделан вывод о неоднородности строения и свойств материала земной-коры.
