Significant uranium deposits and mining were restricted to eastern Germany (until 1990 German Democratic Republic/GDR) while only few small uranium deposits have been mined in western Germany.
Carbonaceous (black)-shale-related stockwork-type, veintype, and sandstone-type uranium deposits contained the bulk of uranium resources, while uraniferous coal and carbonate rocks accounted for minor resources. $Table 7.1 provides an overview of geologic characteristics and resource ranges of these deposit types.
