Rockbursts and seismicity in mines / Взрывы горных пород и сейсмичность в шахтах
This International Symposium on Rockbursts and Seismicity in Mines is the third in a series that began in Johannesburg1 in September 1982 and continued in Minneapolis2 in June 1988. One of the outstanding achievements of the past symposia was the bringing together of experts from many disciplines to contribute to a solution to the rockburst problem. This third symposium continues this tradition and I am pleased that contributions from rock mechanics, seismology, mining, geology and electronic and computer engineering provide a significant enhancement to the state of our knowledge in the field. The papers in this symposium volume explore international developments in both fundamental and practical aspects of the subject.
This volume contains six invited keynote lectures and sixty five written contributions. The publication date of this proceedings was organized to coincide with the symposium meeting held in Kingston, Canada, August 16-18, 1993. Approximately one hundred and twenty extended abstracts were received for consideration of which ninety were approved for submission as full papers. Each of the abstracts was evaluated by two reviewers and the submitted manuscript was considered for publication by the same reviewers. Manuscripts were accepted or rejected on an as submitted basis. Special allowance has been made for contributions from non-English speaking countries. Several manuscripts were completely retyped by my editorial staff in an attempt to improve the English when it was felt that these papers were essential to the symposium. This was deemed necessary in order to try and maintain the quality of publication achieved by Drs Gay and Wainwright following the first symposium and Dr Fairhurst following the second symposium. The result is five hundred pages of current international research and practice in the field. <...>
