High-temperature and high-pressure crystal chemistry / Химия кристаллов высоких давлений и температур
This volume is the third in the new series entitled .Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry [RiMG] (formerly Reviews in Mineralogy [RiM]), published jointly by the Mineralogical Society of America (MSA) and the Geochemical Society. “High-Pressure and High-Temperature Crystal Chemistry” is the brainchild of Bob Hazen, who in 1982 wrote—with his colleage at the Geophysical Lab, Larry Finger—a monograph by the title “Comparative Crystal Chemistry.” At that time very little was known about mineral behavior at high pressures and temperatures, but today there is a vast literature as a result of great strides in experimental techniques and highly imaginative research. In fact, MSA has recently published two related volumes: “Ultrahigh-Pressure Mineralogy: Physics and Chemistry of the Earth’s Deep Interior” (Volume 37, RiM, 1998) and “Transformation Processes in Minerals” (Volume 39, RiMG, 2000).
This volume is dedicated to Larry W. Finger upon his retirement from the Geophysical Lab (see Preface below), by his former colleague, Bob Hazen, and a grateful GL post-doctoral research fellow of recent years, Bob Downs, now at the University of Arizona.
I thank Alex Speer, Executive Director of MSA, and Myrna Byer, Printing Services Associates, Inc., Wheaton, Maryland, for exceptional efforts in the preparation of this volume for the printer.
