The natural history of glyptodonts / Естественная история глиптодонтов
The writing of this book was a collaborative effort involving many individuals who provided information, photographs, articles, and answered numerous questions. Since the inclusion of original images was one of the objectives of this work, I am particularly grateful to the curators of museum collections in Argentina who, with infinite patience, provided me access to a large number of specimens to be photographed. Their good disposition gave me the opportunity to access extraordinary fossils that are part of the history of Argentine paleontology, such as those originally studied by Hermann Burmeister, Florentino and Carlos Ameghino, Enriqueta Vinacci Thul, Alfredo Castellanos, Ángel Cabrera, and Richard Lydekker, among others. The preservation of these specimens, some of which were collected over a century ago, showcases the dedication and expertise of the workers at Argentina's scientific institutions in safeguarding our paleontological heritage. Thanks to the caretakers of these collections, I was able to include images of numerous holotypes and all the glyptodonts with evidence of interaction with indigenous societies.
I want to acknowledge the researchers and museum and library managers from Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, the United States, Switzerland, and Denmark who assisted me remotely in obtaining images of fossils and 19th-century bibliography. I want to express my gratitude to those who have generously and patiently supported me in my research on glyptodonts. They have helped me clarify specific topics, shared unpublished images and data, welcomed me to their workplaces, and made arrangements to facilitate my work. This was the case with Alfredo Zurita, Carlos Luna, Francisco Cuadrelli, Alizia Núñez Blasco, Agustín Martinelli, Juan Carlos Fernícola, Laura Edith Cruz, Sergio Vizcaíno, María Susana Bargo, Martín Zamorano, Martín de los Reyes, and Andrés Rinderknecht, among others. <...>
