Mineral deposits and occurrences in the Arabian–Nubian shield / Месторождения полезных ископаемых и рудопроявления Аравийско-Нубийского щита

The “Supercontinents” constitute the majority of the ancient Earth’s surface and play an important role in Earth’s history (Meert 2012). Supercontinent defined as a large, solid, homogeneous massif of the Earth’s crust, which contains nearly all the continental crust of the planet. It is believed that the largest part of the continental crust formed in the period of 3,200–2,500 million years (Ma) and its fragments are included in all the modern continents (Lubnina and Slabunov 2011).

Mineral deposits of Finland / Месторождения полезных ископаемых Финляндии

Historically documented mining in Finland started in the 1530s when the area formed part of Sweden. The post of commissioner of mines was founded in 1638. The Swedish government activated mineral exploration in Finland in the seventeenth century and, during the Age of Utility, in the eighteenth century. Numerous small iron, copper, and lead occurrences were found, as well as the larger Orijдrvi copper deposit. During 1809-1917 when Finland was a Grand Duchy within the Russian Empire, exploration was reorganized and strengthened. New, generally small iron deposits were discovered to supply iron works.

Mineral economics an Indian perspective / Экономика полезных ископаемых с точки зрения Индии

Minerals are crucial for the development of modern economy. Since mineral resources are exhaustible, increase in their consumption causes its scarcity and the commodity gradually becomes exhausted, so that it is no further available for the mankind. With the increasing demand, the mineral resources would deplete much faster than envisaged earlier. There has been a rising concern about the environmental degradation due to increased exploitation of minerals. Nevertheless, minerals are important drivers of a nation’s economy. Therefore, using the natural resources is imminent, albeit sustainably. Continuous mining of minerals, discovery of new mineral deposits, and import-export-stockpiling of minerals greatly influences the economics of mineral commodities. These data must be perpetually updated in order to provide future perspective and framing of policies at the government level. Therefore, the impulse to write this book stemmed from a need for an updated, compiled and properly interpreted database of the Indian mineral sector.  <...>

Mineral equilibria at low temperature and pressure / Минеральные равновесия при низких температурах и давлениях

Geochemistry is generally considered to be one of the new and burgeoning interdisciplinary scientific fields. The evidence for such a belief is obvious. For example, the Geochemical Society is scarcely out of its swaddling clothes, but it is already a large and important international scientific organization. The very word “geochemistry” was not even included in the ten-volume Oxford Universal English Dictionary published as recently as 1937. During the Second World War and immediately thereafter, however, geochemical work was initiated at scores of universities and commercial laboratories. Thus by 1948 “geochemistry” was well enough established to be defined in The American College Dictionary as “the science dealing with chemical changes in, and the composition of, the earth’s crust.” <...>

Mineral exploration management / Управление геологоразведочными работами

This is a management book about mineral exploration. It does not cover the technical details of exploration methods or technologies. Rather, it focuses on the management process, as it relates to exploration. It is primarily aimed at the newly appointed or inexperienced Exploration Manager, who could do with some guidance on how to manage. However, I hope that others, with more experience, might also find some useful snippets of information, especially any that improve their own performance as managers.<...>

Mineral exploration. Principles and applications / Разведка полезных ископаемых. Принципы и области применения

Minerals and metals are essential components for the growth of human society. The need to survive taught prehistoric Paleolithic men the use of stones as tools as early as 20,000 years ago. The discovery of minerals, their exploitation, and use became many-fold with the advent of civilization and is continuing today. A mineral deposit is too small in size compared to the vast Earth’s crust. Near-surface deposits have been discovered over the centuries, ores have been mined, and metals extracted. The future search for concealed types, rarely showing surface signatures, will be opportunities and challenges. New discoveries will require state-of-the-art exploration techniques, trained labor, scientific knowledge, adequate experience, high-end data processing systems, and interpretation skills <...>

Mineral formation by microorganisms. Concepts and applications / Образование минералов микроорганизмами. Концепции и приложения

Biomineralization is recognized as a multifactorial and complex phenomenon that results in the formation of various mineral crystals. In this regard, studies have shown that microorganisms play a key role in the formation of some types of minerals. These minerals can be formed either intracellularly or extracellularly in order to sustain microbial life. Some of these biominerals are produced in an active form while the others are induced in a passive form. This Microbiology Monographs volume examines various forms of microbial mineral formation and their role in microbial domains. Furthermore, common techniques for studying biomineralproducing  microorganisms, factors affecting biomineralization, and the use of this process in real-life applications are demonstrated.

Mineral industry of the state of New York 2007–2010 / Горнодобывающая промышленность штата Нью-Йорк в 2007-2010 годах

Since the arrival of European colonists in New York, the extraction of mineral wealth has been an important societal goal. Mining, then and now, provides the raw materials for consumer goods. Iron was used for cooking utensils and stoves, among other things. It was the basis for many construction projects. The availability of “hydraulic” cement was as important in the success of the Erie Canal as it is to the maintenance of the New York State Thruway. Mines provided materials to improve the standard of living of the populace. Late nineteenth century clay mines in the Hudson River Valley provided clay to make literally billions of bricks used to replace the highly flammable wooden building materials of New York City. The State of New York has, since the 1980s, ranked about fifteenth in the nation in terms of mineral value extracted annually.

Mineral matter and trace elements in coal / Минеральные вещества и микроэлементы в угле

Minerals are highly significant components of coal from both academic and practical perspectives. Minerals may react when the coal is burned, either forming an ash residue, or, in many cases, releasing volatile components, or as they need to be removed as slag from the blast furnace during metallurgical processing.
