When describing, two years ago, the Blake Collection of Ammonites 'from Kachh (Cutch), the writer (1924, p. 1) regretted that owing to the fact that he had not been able to re-examine "\Vaagcn's types, the affinitiefi of some of the oft-quoted Kachh species would have to remain 1mcertain· The kind offer, soon after, by Dr. E. H. Pascoc, the Director of the Geological Survey of India, to unde1take the revision of the Ammonite fauna of Kachh, was therefore eagerly accepted by the writer. l\lr. Oldham's anticiJlation of 1873 that Waagen's work would turn out to be one of the most important contributions to the Cephalopod palreontology of the Upper Jumssic formations ever issued, was completely realised, and the writer feels deeply grateful to Dr. Pascoe for entrusting him with the revision of so important a fauna.  <...>

Since the Jurassic deposits of Kachh have yielded only very few pre. 'Callovian Cephalopods, it is unnecessary to deal in detail with the early members of the present super-family. The Stephanoceratidae* in the restricted sense, although typically Bajocian, with genera like Polyplectites (= group of Amm. linguiferus d'Orbigny and 'Stephanoceras' daubenyi, Gemmellaro) undoubtedly persisted to the Middle and even Upper Bathonian (Siemiradzkian and Oxyceritan). No forms of this family, or of Sphaeroceratidae and of Tulitidae, descendants of Stephanoceratidae s.s., have yet been found in Kachh. <...>

This publication consists of tite revision of an abundant and well preserved flora. Thís flora was collected in the region known as El Consuelo, Iocated in the Mixteca Alta, State of Oaxaca, Mexico, and studíed by Wieland in 1914. The purpose of this revision was múltiple. From the observation of the material and the Illustrations of the monograph (Wieland, 1914-1916), it is evident that Wieland applied a stríct monotypic criterion.

Many of the Earth’s most fascinating natural processes are related to rock fractures.Volcanic eruptions, tectonic earthquakes, geysers, large landslides and the formation and development of mid-ocean ridges all depend on fracture formation and propagation. Rock fractures

are also of fundamental importance in more applied fields such as those related to fluidfilled reservoirs, deep crustal drilling, tunnelling, road construction, dams, geological and geophysical mapping and field geology and geophysics.

There has been great progress in understanding fracture initiation and propagation over the past decades. The results of this progress are summarised in many papers, textbooks and monographs within the fields of fracture mechanics and materials science. Much of this improved knowledge of fracture development is of great relevance for understanding and modelling geological processes that relate to rock fractures. <...>

Since that time, both rock engineering itself and the associated rock mechanics research have increased in activity by leaps and bounds, so much so that it is difficult for an engineer or researcher to be aware of all the emerging developments, especially since the information is widely spread in reports, magazines, journals, books and the internet. It is appropriate, if not essential, therefore that periodically an easily accessible structured survey should be made of the currently available knowledge.
