The comprehensive Treatise of Geology has had its day. No man can hope any longer to assimilate and summarize the whole known geological history of the world. It has become almost a whole-time occupation to keep track of the literature of a single geological system.
This book represents the first attempt at a synthesis of one system on the basis of marine faunas in all parts of the world. Its object is twofold: first, to present a unified description as a reference work, and second, to enquire what can be deduced as to faunal realms, climate, palaeogeography, volcanic and plutonic activity and earth-movements, and especially the distribution of these in space and time, during one reasonably circumscribed period of geological history. The prerequisite of all such investigations is faunal correlation over the whole world, and no small part
of the object of this attempt has been to test the principles and performance of palaeontological correlation on the world scale, to establish its capabilities and limitations. <...>

Монографія являє собою перше узагальнення матеріалів з питань стратиграфії, перспективних у нафтогазоносному відношенні нижньокрейдовга відкладів Карпатського і Причорноморсько-Кримського регіонів. .Вік і стратифікація нижньої крейди заходу і півдня України обгрунтовані на підставі нових матеріалів, що отримані у процесі ревізії й переопису стратотипових або опорних розрізів одновікових утворень, первинних чи додаткових зборів у них фауни, її опису, опрацювання і критичного аналізу всіх наявних даних з цього питання для всіх структурно-фаціальних одиниць Українських Карпат, а також детального вивчення вперше зібраних палеобіологічних залишків у нижньокрейдових відкладах більше ніж із 200 свердловин, пробурених у Північному Причорномор’ї, Рівнинному Криму та на Керченському п-ові, і з окремих свердловин на шельфі Чорного та Азовського морів.
Для палеонтологів і стратиграфів, які вивчають нижньокрейдові відклади Середземноморської палеозоогеографічної області, а також може бути використана при проведенні геологічної зйомки і глибокого буріння з метою геологорозшукових робіт на нафту і газ.

Results are presented of a high-resolution study of foraminifers, ostracods and marine palynomorphs from the continuous succession of Middle Volgian – Lower Valanginian (Upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous) deposits of the Nordvik section (NE Siberia). Six foraminiferal and six dinoflagellate cyst (dinocyst) zones and subzones have been identified. Volgian foraminiferal assemblages (Dorothia tortuosa JF51 zone and Ammodiscus veteranus, Evolutinella emeljanzevi JF52 zone) may be regarded as correlative markers for Arctic regions as they are also observed in Barents Sea shelf sediments and different regions of Siberia. Marine palynomorph assemblages provide a reliable correlation with northern areas of Western Europe and Canada at three stratigraphic levels: (a) the base of the Upper Volgian, (b) the middle of the Berriasian and (c) the lowermost Valanginian.

Applying depositional sequence stratigraphic concepts to the interpretation of siliciclastic depositional systems is becoming an increasingly important tool in petroleum geology. After a succession of breakthroughs during the 1970s and 1980s, sequence stratigraphic concepts now have entered a phase of intense application and documentation, especially with regard to successful implementation in the field of petroleum geology. Workers have applied these concepts to a variety of data bases ranging from outcrop to cores to electric logs to multifold seismic data. Clearly, sequence stratigraphic concepts embody not a rigid model or template, but rather a way of looking at geology.

Here is the first complete manual on Coastal Geology. A book that gathers the knowledge of more than a century of research on different geological aspects of the coast: dynamics of geological processes, geomorphology, sedimentology and stratigraphy. They are also reflected from the applications of these sciences to the social problems and challenges of the communities occupying coastal areas. This manual collects many of my research experiences on different shores of the world, but almost everything written in this book I learned in other books.
