Exploration is looking for minerals by means of surveys, drilling and taking samples. This includes extracting minerals for purposes other than producing them commercially. <...>
These exercises have been made to fit the content of the book Pressure Control During Oil Well Drilling http://bookboon.com/no (a book that was revised and updated in 2011, mostly on basis of input from readers). Many of the exercises in present book have been solved by students in the corresponding course at the Department of Petroleum Engineering and Applied Geophysics at NTNU of Trondheim, Norway. It would be highly appreciated if you contacted me at pal.skalle@ntnu.no in case there is something unclear in this collection of exercises.
The enhancement of dissolution of quartz under the influence of clays has been recognized in sandstones for many years. It is well known that a grain of quartz in contact with a clay flake dissolves faster than when in contact with another grain of quartz. This phenomenon promotes silica transfer during the diagenesis of sandstones and is responsible of deformation and porosity variations. Here we make an attempt to explain the process of this rock deformation using a pressure solution mechanism.
Primitive Asteroids and Meteorites was born as a collaboration among members of NASA’s Asteroid Redirect Mission (ARM) Formulation Assessment and Support Team (FAST). As such, we own a great debt of gratitude to Daniel D. Mazanek and David M. Reeves at NASA’s Langley Research Center, to Paul A. Abell at the Johnson Space Center, to Michele Gates at NASA Headquarters, and to countless others who worked in developing this mission. In many ways, ARM allowed for asteroid exploration and mining to move into the tangible realm. ARM brought together a diverse and very passionate group of scientists and engineers who have made the study of meteorites, asteroids, and how to get us there into their lives’ work.
This textbook is intended as an introduction to geochemistry for geology students in their senior year or in their first year of graduate work.At that time in their education, students are ready to relearn those principles of chemistry that are especially applicable to the study of geological processes. Geochemistry can enhance their understanding of these processes and can teach them to apply principles of chemistry to the solution of geological problems. Geologists in virtually all branches of the science can benefit from an introductory course in geochemistry because it can help them to make quantitative predictions about the outcome of chemical reactions that occur in the context of many geological processes <...>
Principles and Practice in Mining Engineering is an up-to-date introduction to the scientific principles and technological practices of mining engineering. This book introduces the processes involved in surface and underground mining, and covers many topical issues common to mining engineering practices, including mining and quarrying methods, environmental protection measures, finance and investment, policy and mining education. Recent technology and innovations (technovations) in the mining and mineral industry, including digital mines, IoT/IIoT, AI, and machine learning, are also discussed.
The history of mineral processing over the recent one hundred years has shown that the froth flotation is a predominant technology of mineral beneficiation, and nowadays it is widely used for materials separation, valuables recovery and wastes treatment in the industries of mining, petroleum, chemical engineering, etc. Flotation equipment plays vital roles in the practices of flotation processing. The development of flotation equipment made it possible for more and more traditional and nontraditional ores and materials to be treated by flotation process with high efficiency.
