Copper and gold mineralization in the Maher-Abad deposit, eastern Iran, is closely related to the multiple emplacement episodes of Upper Eocene granodiorite porphyries within andesitic volcaniclastic and coeval quartz monzonite stocks. The magmatic hydrothermal fluids thereafter hydrofracturing provided appropriate conduits, formed a stockwork of quartz and quartz–sulfide veinlets within the porphyritic host rocks which were extensively altered into potassic, propylitic, phyllic, and argillic assemblages.

The deposits exploited in Australian open pit gold mines are often small and of low grade with highly variable gold distributions. Consequently, they require detailed grade control. The nature of these grade control programmes is outlined together with a description of the various computational methods used. Particular attention is given to geological input into the various stages of the grade control program so as to ensure the reliability of sampling; to aid the production of bench extraction outlines; and to predict and minimize dilution and ore loss. The application of geostatistical techniques in this respect is also critically examined.

The use of mineral resources has been fundamental to human activity: from housing to household goods, from industrial equipment to energy, and from high technology to space exploration, mining has provided the basics of life to the human race. The mining industry produces energy, metals, and minerals that are essential to economic prosperity and a better quality of life. As important as these benefits are, mining activity produces social and environmental impacts on communities, and requires a more responsible mining practice—it requires sustainable mine management.

The economics of the resources industry are unique. All mining is subject to uncertainties not applicable to other industries. Every mine is different. Industry economics are difficult to quantify and categorize. Information is very costly.
In major mining countries, there is now a real dichotomy.

This book is written as a practical field manual to be used by geologists engaged in mineral exploration. It is also hoped that it will serve as a text and reference for students in Applied Geology courses of universities and colleges. The book aims to outline some of the practical skills that turn the graduate geologist into an explorationist:. It is intended as a practical 'how to' book, rather than as a text on geological or ore deposit theory. An explorationist is a professional who searches for ore bodies in a scientific and structured way. Although an awkward and artificial term, this is the only available word to describe the totality of the skills which are needed to locate and define economic mineralization.

Mining capital is capital required to develop mines from exploration, feasibility studies, mine design, construction, and commissioning to operation; capital to refinance and modernize old mines; capital to purchase mining, processing, and related mine infrastructure equipment; and capital to acquire mines. The supply of commodities remains vital to the development of modern society.

Te mining sector is essential in the economic development of many resource rich African countries as it has the potential to fnance infrastructural developments which are much needed in Africa. Tis is due to the fact that various minerals are used as raw materials in different sectors including construction and transport. Most importantly, mineral materials also play an important role in industrialization and urbanization which are now rapidly escalating on the continent.
