Petrogenesis of the ophiolitic giant chromite deposits of Kempirsai, Kazakhstan: a study of solid and fluid inclusions in chromite / Петрогенезис и офиолиты гигантского хромитового месторождения Кемпирсай, Казахстан: изучение твердых и жидких включений

Chromites forming giant orebodies in the southern part of the Early Palaeozoic ophiolite sequence of the Kempirsai Massif (Kazakhstan, Urals) contain a large number of inclusions, i.e. silicates, sulphides, alloys, arsenides, and fluids. The chromite orebodies are surrounded by dunite envelopes of variable thickness, which show transitional boundaries to harzburgite host rocks. The composition of ore-forming chromites in depleted mantle rocks of the southern part of the massif (Main Ore Field) is rather uniform, showing high cr-number [100Cr/(Cr+Al), 78-84] and mg-number [100Mg/ (Mg + Fe2+), 51-85] values. Smaller bodies of Al-rich spinel in the northern and western part of the massif (Batamshinsk) have variable cr-number (38-60) and mg-number (50-88) values.

Understanding mineral deposits. Chromite deposits / Понимание рудных месторождений. Месторождения хромита

Chromite deposits constitute the only primary source of chromium metal; in addition they record a remarkable phenomenon in the overall process of concentration by magmatic crystallization. Extensive literature exists on both aspects of chromite deposits. The readers are particularly referred to the review articles by Duke (1983) and Stowe (1994), and a book edited by Stowe (1987a).
Chromite is the only ore mineral of chromium, a metal in demand for its alloying and refractory properties. It is normally marketed, according to usage, under three categories (Stow 1987a): (a) metallurgical ore (commonly Cr203 >40% and Cr:Fe ratio >2.2), which is smelted to produce ferrochrome or ferro-silicochrome for addition to the furnace charge for the manufacture of special steels, including stainless steel (commonly containing 18% Cr, 8% Ni, and 74% Fe); (b) Chemical ore (CrP3 >42%), the raw material for the production of Cr-chemicals used in a variety of applications such as paints and electroplating; and (c) refractory ore (Si02 <10%, AI20 3>20%, CrP3 + AIP3 >60%), used for foundry molding sands and furnace-lining briquettes. <...>

Uranium deposits of the world. USA and Latin America / Месторождения урана в мире. США и Латинская Америка

An important prerequisite to the long-term use of nuclear energy is information on uranium ore deposits from which uranium can be economically exploited. Hence the basic purpose of this book is to present an overview of uranium geology and data characteristic for uranium districts and deposits in the United States of America and Latin American countries. With respect to the classification terminology of uranium deposits used in this volume, the reader is referred to the typological classification system of uranium deposits presented in Part I Typology of Uranium Deposits in the first volume of the series Uranium Deposits of the World - Asia (Dahlkamp 2009).

Effect of sediment characteristics on erosion and deposition in ephemeral-stream channels / Влияние характеристик донных отложений на эрозию и отложение осадков в руслах временных потоков

This study of five semiarid valleys emphasizes the importance of physical properties of sediment in determining streamchannel shape and differences in the mechanics of erosion and deposition between areas. Prerequisites for selection of the five areas were a progressive decrease in the percent silt-clay in stream channels and banks, active aggradation or erosion within a reach of the stream channel, and nearly uniform lithology within each drainage basin.

Earth surface processes, landforms and sediment deposits / Процессы на земной поверхности, формы рельефа и отложения осадков

Earth surface processes, landforms, and sediment deposits are intimately related – involving erosion of rocks, generation of sediment, and transport and deposition of sediment through various Earth surface environments. These processes, and the deposits and landforms that they generate, have a fundamental bearing on engineering, environmental and public safety issues; on recovery of economic resources; and on our understanding of Earth history.

Deposition, diagenesis and weathering of organic matter-rich sediments / Отложение, диагенез и выветривание богатых органическим веществом отложений

The major objective of this text is to provide information on characteristics of organic matter in sedimentary rocks and to relate these characteristics to processes relevant in their deposition, diagenesis, and weathering.
Organic matter derived from biological precursors is a constituent of most sedimentary rocks. Its amount in recent and subrecent sediments is known to be controlled by a variety of physical and chemical factors such as transport distance from the site of plant growth to the site of deposition or oxygen content of water at the sedimentJwater interface.

The interior of the Earth its structure, constitution and evolution / Недра Земли, их строение, конституция и эволюция

This book has been written to bring up to date The Interior of the Earth, published in 1971 following the plate tectonic revolution. Plate tectonic theory has now been widely accepted as a unifying theory for the origin ofthe Earth’s major surface features, and the broad viewpoint taken in 1971 has been vindicated. The last ten years, however, has been a period of continuing rapid advance in earth sciences. The structure of the Earth’s interior has become much better defined. A new understanding ofthe physical processes within the Earth which permit the escape of heat from the deep interior, drive the geomagnetic dynamo and cause the plate motions, is emerging. Consequently, much of the original text has had to be re-written to produce this new book.
