The Bergell Alps offer not only a magnificent landscape with impressive mountains that attract many tourists, but also they document a unique geological history, first explored by Bernhard Studer (1851) and since then studied and documented in many publications. In this book, we try to connect visitors with scientific curiosity with remarkable geological features observed in the Bergell Alps, such as a young granite that intrudes into an older stack of nappes (thrust sheets) that represent the European continental plate at the base overthrust by the African plate, causing gradients in temperature and pressure that can be explored by looking at outcrops of rocks in the field.
The Hoggar, which forms the Algerian part of the Tuareg shield, is an ideal site for geoscientific studies. As the site of successive orogenies, it offers a single example of the problems that arise on a continental scale, whether in terms of magmatism, metamorphism, structure, metallogeny or geophysics.

The monograph Geology of Cuba addresses different facets of Cuba’s geological knowledge: cartography, marine geology, fossil record, stratigraphy, tectonics, classification of its ophiolites, quaternary deposits, metallogeny, and minerageny. The contributions are not linked by a common thread, being free versions according to the scientific positions of the authors; therefore, logically, there are contradictory opinions in many cases. However, it is a fabulous scientific work that puts in the hands of the most diverse readers all the wealth of geological knowledge of Cuba, essential for any type of application, exploration, teaching, research, or patrimonial. In itself, it constitutes a notable contribution to the advancement of knowledge of the Geology of Cuba.
. Based upon early field studies within the Macarena range and the Roraima tepuis, Augusto Gansser documented the puzzling relationships between the Guiana Shield and the Andean belt, in the process formulating the “Roraima Problem” from a geomorphologic-stratigraphic standpoint.
Interest in the plastic deformation of rocks arises mainly from its application in the Earth sciences, especially in structural geology and tectonics. Its experimental study has consequently been pursued mainly in laboratories associated with geology or geophysics departments or institutes. However, the physical mechanisms involved are of considerable interest in materials science and some workers in the field of rock deformation have had a materials science affiliation.
Some 75% of the rocks at the Earth’s surface are sedimentary in origin, and these include the familiar sandstones, limestones and shales, and the less common but equally well-known salt deposits, ironstones, coal and chert. Sedimentary rocks of the geological record were deposited in the whole range of natural environments that exist today. The study of these modern environments and their sediments and processes contributes much to the understanding of their ancient equivalents. There are some sedimentary rock types; however, for which there are no known modern analogues, or their inferred depositional environments are only poorly represented at the present time.

На основании детального палеонтолого-стратиграфического изучения основных разрезов пограничных нижне-среднеюрских отложений и обобщения материалов предыдущих исследований в работе приведено обоснование серии параллельных зональных шкал тоарского яруса С.В. Азиатской части России и корреляция в пределах Бореальной области.
Изложен новый подход к проведению сейсмических работ методом преломленных волн (МПВ). Он аналогичен существующему в настоящее время в методе отраженных волн и особенно касается методики проведения полевых работ и обработки материалов МПВ, Показано, что выбор методики работ определяется оптимальной регистрацией преломленных волн и возможностью их выделения (ослабления помех) в процессе обработки, а обработка материалов МПВ должна выполняться на основе миграции исходных записей, только в этом случае ее результаты содержат всю зарегистрированную информацию об упругих свойствах, определяемую по кинематическим и динамическим свойствам волн. Такой подход позволил пересмотреть соответственно технологию получения данных, последовательность обработки материалов и возможности применения МПВ при решении различных геологических задач.
