Geodiversity and biodiversity are the two fundamental components of Nature that must be analyzed simultaneously for good management of the natural environment. Geodiversity, including geomorphodiversity, has values that make it possible to define the geosystem services on the basis of which it is possible to establish protocols for the sustainable development of the territory analyzed. Both the values of geodiversity and the geosystem services they provide are key elements for the definition of Natural Protected Areas (NPAs). Furthermore, it is also necessary to consider the assessment of the geodiversity and geomorphodiversity of the territory under consideration, so that a zoning can be established in terms of the geodiversity index (geodiversity/geomorphodiversity gradient) that favors the establishment of specific geoconservation protocols according to the value of these indices. In addition, NPAs should be considered as elements belonging to a network in which the different natural systems of the territory in which the network is defined are represented. In the case of geodiversity or geomorphodiversity, the network must be supported by the definition of geological contexts, representative of the major geological units that are observable in the territory. <...>

This book has been compiled and written by members of the Commission on Geomorphological Survey and Mapping of the International Geographical Union. Originally proposed in 1976 as a text to accompany and explain the lnternationtll Geomorphological Map of Europe (1: 2.5 million), the oudine of the book was prepared by the Commission at a meeting in Nove Mesto, Czechoslovakia, in 1977. Since then, there has been a considerable delay in publishing the International Map; meanwhile, work on this book progressed and has overtaken the schedule for printing the Map. Geophysical and astrophysical convection / Геофизическая и астрофизическая конвекция

Since 1993, the Geophysical Turbulence Program at the National Center for Atmospheric  Research together with the National Science Foundation has sponsored interdisciplinary  workshops each summer in Boulder, CO. The general theme of the workshops relates to turbulence research but with a wide community focus. The material in this volume arose out of a workshop held in October of 1995. The purpose of the workshop was to bring together researchers and students working on both astrophysical and geophysical systems, in which convection was an important effect.

Geophysical case study of the Woodlawn orebody Sew South Wales, Australia / Геофизическое исследование рудного тела Вудлон в Южном Уэльсе, Австралия

The deposit is situated in southeastern New South Wales at Lat.35°04*S, Long.1A9°34*E. (Fig.l) The first phase of testing proved up a body of poljmietallic massive sulphides and an adjacent zone of dominantly copper ore. The massive sulphides body consisted of about 6.3 million tonnes of copper, lead and zinc ore (1.7% Cu: 5.5% Pb; 14.4% Zn) and was the main target for geophysical investigation. The copper ore zone contains about 3.7 million tonnes averaging about 1.9% Cu, 0.1%Pb, 0.5% Zn in a number of ore shoots both along strike from and below the massive sulphides. Subsequent drilling indicated several concealed bodies of massive sulphides, separate from the first discovered body but these are at depths of more than 200m and hence too deep to have influenced the geophysical investigations.  <...>

Worldwide supplies of conventional natural gas are declining; new, unconventional forms of energy resources are required to meet the increase in demand. Among these unconventional resources are gas hydrates, which are solid, icelike forms of methane and water that form under lowtemperature and high-pressure regimes. Gas hydrates exist in abundance worldwide, and some estimates suggest that the total amount of natural gas found in gas hydrates may exceed all known conventional gas resources.
