The Arkansas bauxite region lies near the center of the State in Pulaski and Saline Counties. It is irregular in outline, covering about 275 square miles and is elongate in a northeasterly direction. Bauxite deposits in the region can be grouped into two principal districts, one in Pulaski County about 5 miles south of Little Rock, and the other, more important commercially, about 25 miles southwest in Saline County.

The Aptian to Early Albian Gething Formation comprises a nonmarine to marine sequence of interstratified conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone, mudstone and coal, and ranges from 18 m to approximately 1100 m thick. In the Burnt-Sukunka rivers area and part of the Monkman-Stony Lake area, the formation is subdivided into three lithostratigraphic units which, in ascending order, are the Gaylard (new), Bullmoose (new) and Chamberlain (now formally defined and revised) members.

Results and conclusions are presented of U-Pb, Rb-Sr and K-Ar studies in three areas of southern District of Keewatin. The results of U-Pb studies on zircon are generally complex and age interpretations are not necessarily unique. The geology, more fully described elsewhere, is summarized in this report.
Aneikuni-Yathkyed lakes area. U-Pb age results on zircon indicate that the age of the volcanic-granitoid basement is in the range 2650 to 2680 Ma. K-Ar ages on hornblende and biotite in the Archean basement rocks are commonly ca. 1700 Ma, typical of ages re-set by the Hudsonian Orogeny.

A minority of geologists and other geoscientists have been using computers for manipulation of spatial data since the 1960s. During the 1980s, advances in computer hardware, particularly processing speed and data storage, catalyzed the development of software for handling spatial data. The emerging capabilities for graphical display played an important role in this development. One of the significant products of this period of rapid technological change was GIS. The impact of GIS has been widely felt in all fields that use geographic information, in resource management, land-use planning, transportation, marketing, and in many applications in the geosciences and elsewhere. The majority of large geological organizations are now using GIS, and the handling of spatial data of all types by computer is widespread.This chapter introduces GIS by describing what GIS means, the purposes and functions of GIS, how GIS relates to other kinds of software for spatial data handling, and presents a typical geological application. <...>

The modern oil industry began to take shape in 1859. Since then, oil companies, many of which have become super-major international enterprises, have been conducting exploration, development, and other operations in almost every corner of the world. Imbalances determine the structure of the industry in the distribution of oil and gas resources, differences in levels of economic development between nations, the physical and economic dislocation between the countries which host resources and the countries where they are primarily consumed, and of course, the pursuit of profit by the oil companies themselves (Tong 2018).

This textbook was written to provide insight into the engineering processes employed to extract oil and gas. It is useful for anyone who has ever wondered how oil and gas are discovered, and how they make their way into our gas tanks and barbecue grills. Processes are explained in layman’s terms so non-engineers can easily understand them. Terms are explained when they are used. 

Since the University of Oulu bought last year a LA-ICP-MS to expand their ways of research concerning corrosion and agglomeration problems in fluidized bed boilers. The objective of this thesis was to give a review about LA-ICP-MS, what are its capabilities, how to calibrate, what are the start up procedures and what kind of measurements can we make? The thesis will discus every step of the LA-ICP-MS; ablation, ionisation and detection applied on the LA-ICP-MS of the University of Oulu. After the literature part we try to improve our measurement strategies with the LAICP-MS, in order to get better results out of it. Amazingly, 18 years after the commercialization of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), less than 4000 systems have been installed worldwide. If you compare this number with another rapid multielement technique, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), first commercialized in 1974, the difference is quite significant. In 1992, 18 years after ICP-OES was introduced, more than 9000 units had been sold, and if you compare it with the same time period that ICP-MS has been available, the difference is even more dramatic.
