The main geological results of exploration by the British Petroleum Company Limited since 1945 are outlined, and the general basis of operations described.
In the south of England new data emphasize the progressive development of the Wealden area as a Jurassic depositional basin, on a surface of mainly Devonian and Carboniferous rocks. In the East Midlands and West Yorkshire more information on the relation of Carboniferous basins is now available, and extensive occurrences of contemporary and intrusive basic igneous rocks are described.

Демонстрируются результаты численного моделирования гидроакустических и донных сейсмических полей, создаваемых акустическими источниками на мелководном морском шельфе, а также глобальных сейсмических полей в недрах планеты при землетрясениях.

Modelling and prediction of spatially distributed data such as the secondary cassiterite mineral distributions are often affected by spatial autocorrelation (SAC); a phenomenon that violates attributes data independence in space, which leads to type1 errors in classical statistics and overfitting or underfitting in machine learning (ML) classification respectively. The concept of overfitting and underfitting of spatially distributed datasets in an ML classification has not been properly addressed by the traditional random holdout technique of model validation, and this is a challenge to the assessment of predictive spatial model performance in spatially distributed datasets.

Kaolin is a commercial term used to describe white clay composed essentially of kaolinite, Al&010(OH)g. The term is typically used to refer to both the raw clay and the refined commercial product. Isotope geochemistry has grown over the last 60 years to become one of the most important fields in the earth sciences. It has two broad subdivisions, namely, radiogenic isotope geochemistry and stable isotope geochemistry. These subdivisions reflect the two primary reasons why the relative abundances of isotopes of elements vary in nature, which are radioactive decay and chemical fractionation; in this context, “fractionation” is any process in which the isotopes of the same element behave differently.

It was an area where marine navigation was developed and where many trade routes intersected. The publication of one of the first monographs on marine geology and geography by Marsilli in 1725 suggests that the Mediterranean Sea was the cradle of marine geology.
